Well, against my better judgement, I bought a set of Raceland Ultimo coilovers. Initial review is; they’re much better than I expected. Of course, my old shocks were completely gone, so anything is an upgrade, really. I have them set so the helper springs are mostly compressed (maybe 3/4 of the threaded section high), which makes my car sit at about 1" lower than stock. Their website says drop of 2-4", so I’m happy that it can go higher than they state. They’re comfortably stiff, which makes driving a whole new experience. The first time I floored it, I went to shift, and I guess I’m used to the front of my car dipping when I let go of the gas to shift due to sudden lack of acceleration, so I pushed the clutch much further than I had to, since I was used to following through with my leg in the same position, so to speak, when the weight used to shift forward. It’s hard to explain, but it’s a much better ride. No more body roll. There’s no more vibration in the steering wheel, and I can feel every little bump and dip. The ride is tight, but not overly so. Hopefully they hold up, because so far, I love them. I may be the first VW owner to use these coilovers and not completely dump my car and cause them to over-stress, so we’ll see!

I liked mine enough to buy a second set. Keep them set high and they should last.
